RANDY DOUGHERTY BIO

Randy comes from a Minnesota square dance family. At age 15, the restriction imposed by a broken leg got him to try calling. While in high school and college he called dances throughout the Mid-West. In 1979 he left his mathematics teaching position to devote full time to his calling career. Until 1986 he called on a regular basis for seven clubs in the Twin Cities area. At the same time he broadened his national and international calling exposure.

The warmer climate of Arizona lured Randy to Mesa, the Mecca for winter square dancing. In the Southwest he currently runs a busy November – March schedule of regular workshops and special dances from ABC level through C3A. During the summer he calls at dances, festivals, and national conventions both in the U.S. and abroad. He has made many trips to Canada, Mexico, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Japan, Saudi Arabia, England, Germany, the Czech Republic, Australia, and New Zealand.

Throughout his career, Randy has recorded hits for many record companies and is currently on the Royal Records label. Most recently recorded are: Ain’t Nothing Shakin’,Somebody Touched Me,Tiger By The Tail, Irresistible You, Angels Among Us, I Get the Fever, My Daddy was an Old-Time Preacher Man, Ring of Fire,On The Wings of a Dove,Yellow Polks Dot Bikini,Sally Was a Good Ole Girl,Petticoat Junction,Lucky Son of a Gun and Right Back Where I Started Again.

Randy has been an avid supporter of Callerlab since its inception. He served three terms on the Board of Governors and has been a member of the Executive Committee and of several instructional panels. As a certified Callerlab-Coach, he excels at giving student callers a strong base to help them develop their careers.
